Dr. Jacob West Becomes Dean of Logsdon School of Theology

February 25, 2025

Dr. Jacob West ’04, ’07, ’13 has been named the new dean of Hardin-Simmons University’s Logsdon School of Theology. He will begin this role starting June 2025.

West, who has served as the associate dean of the Logsdon School of Theology in the Cynthia Ann Parker College of Liberal Arts since March 2024, was named dean after the elevation of Logsdon as a college for the University, effective June 2025.

“When folks began to dream about the Logsdon building, they saw the hand of Christ reaching to the Forty Acres at Hardin-Simmons and beyond. It brings me great joy to continue this endeavor as the dean of the Logsdon School of Theology. I pray daily for Logsdon to be an encouraging hand to every program and group on this campus. I pray for HSU and Logsdon to encourage the church a block away and the church 1,500 miles from the window at our chapel,” said West.

West has maintained a deep connection to Logsdon throughout his academic and professional journey. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Bible, a Master of Divinity, and a Doctor of Ministry from Hardin-Simmons University, equipping him exceptionally well to lead and inspire the next generation of ministry leaders. In the months leading up to this promotion, he has already worked hard to advance the program, fostering growth and strengthening its impact.

“I don’t think HSU could have found a better person for this role,” said Provost and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Chris McNair. “Jacob is no stranger to HSU and the opportunities ahead with Logsdon. I believe he has the ability to work within the college and across campus to advance our goals as it relates to HSU’s dedication to developing well-equipped Christian leaders.”

West envisions Logsdon as a theology school built on a foundation of loving God and others, all for God’s glory. His leadership focuses on fostering strong relationships within the school and with ministry partners so that students are well-supported and connected to future opportunities. West sees himself as both a leader and a pastoral presence, encouraging faculty and students while building a close-knit, mission-driven community.

“Logsdon’s legacy of spreading God’s word is a testament to those who founded HSU in 1891, and we are excited to celebrate Jacob’s calling to continue that legacy as the dean of the Logsdon School of Theology,” said President Eric Bruntmyer. “Jacob’s bold, lion-hearted leadership is an inspiration to our young women and men. From that inspiration, it is our prayer and purpose that all HSU students seek Christ, hear His voice, and follow Him. I know that Jacob and our Logsdon faculty will prepare them for God’s adventure, and I look forward to seeing how HSU students will be the hands and feet of Christ.”
